Sherlock Shines at Brisbane Ekka

Truro Whiteface from Bellata, NSW have once again received recognition for their star bull, Truro Sherlock S188 (P), crowned Champion Interbreed Bull at this year’s Brisbane Ekka.

Run by Scott and Phillipa Hann, along with their two daughters Matilda and Sophie, Truro was awarded first place in the Champion of Champions, adjudicated by Judges Scott Ferguson, Erica Halliday and international judge PJ Budler.

After a 7-year hiatus from the show ring, the family-run stud made the decision to re-enter the scene in 2023- and what a decision it turned out to be.

Proclaimed by the stud as ‘the best bull they have ever bred’, Truro Sherlock S188 (P) has been recognised by judges all over the country. Winning Supreme Champion Hereford Exhibit and placing in the top three in Interbreed at the 2023 Sydney Royal Show and being the first bull to win the Junior Bull Challenge, Champion Interbreed Bull and The Super Bull Challenge at the highly competitive 2023 Taroom Show, his win at Brisbane is the icing on the cake.

In the Hereford Judging, Truro Sherlock placed first in his class, bull 24 months and under 30 months, and was awarded Senior Champion Bull and Grand Champion Bull by judge Shane Bishop.

Sherlock then went on to be crowned the Interbreed Bull of the Show, winning the Champion of Champions. He is the first Hereford to win Interbreed in the current format, making the win not only historical but colossal for the Hereford breed as a whole.

Truro knew he was a special bull, but the win still came as a surprise to them, with many tears shed after the win. After a few tough year with family health battles, Scott, Phillipa and their girls have worked so hard to not only achieve this placing but breed cattle of this high caliber.

Truro also had success with their other entrants, heifer Truro Fantasia T029 (H) placing first in heifer 16 months and under 18 months, and horn bull Truro Sire Power S170 (H) placing third in bull 24 months and under 18 months. Truro was also awarded first place in the Breeder’s Group class.

Truro want to thank all those who congratulated, called, messaged or shared a beer with them after their win. They are humbled and honored to have won Interbreed at such a prestigious show, and are so proud of this achievement, Sherlock and the direction their herd and stud are going.

Truro Sherlock, along with 39 other catalogued lots, will be offered for sale at Truro’s Annual Spring Sale held on-property on Monday 28th August 2023. For more sale information visit the Spring Sale page, using the menu on the left of this screen.
