22 July, 2008 at Narrabri NSW

18 bulls sold to a top of $6,500
Average $3278
Gross $59,000

Once again Truro sold the top priced bull at the 7th NW Bull Sale in Narrabri. Scott & Pip Hann and family were pleased with their results with a great blend of repeat and new buyers.

The top priced bull for the day was $6500 for “Truro Box Office”. He was sold to repeat buyers Keith and Noel Stanford, of Bellata. “Box Office” is a son of homebred sire “Truro Yogi Bear” and was selected for his great length of body and scale, combined with great quality and Breedplan figures.

The Stanford brothers followed up by purchasing another bull “Truro Blue Gum”, sired by Moorlands Grand National out of a great GH Simba cow. This dam, Marianne S036, was also the mother of the top priced bull in 2007. Blue Gum had great balanced EBVs with high EMA and IMF.

Jeff and Michelle King of Gunnedah returned to purchase another Truro sire, buying the second top priced bull “Truro Barracuda” for $6000.  This bull was again sired by Moorlands Grand National and was out of a Yarram Extra 57U M629 daughter.

Ken Cudmore of Quirindi returned to purchase three bulls, firstly the first bull into the ring for Truro, “Truro Big Ben B016” for $3500. Ben is the best M629 son we’ve bred to date and is a big, long stretchy sire with horsepower, great figures and will be a real asset to the Cudmore’s operation. The other bulls purchased by the Cudmores were “Big Ted”, a son of Truro Yogi Bear, and an October Toolangatta Impulse son, “Blueprint B106”, for $4500 and $3000 respectively.

Ian Gardiner, “Kickerbell” also travelled from Quirindi to purchase 2 new sires. Firstly, a Foxforth Valuable son named “Bob the Builder” was purchased for $4000, with an IMF of +0.9, placing him in the top 1% of the breed for this trait. Ian also purchased “Bonanza”, the last of the Yarram M629 sons to be sold by Truro. Bonanza had a low birthweight EBV of +2.9 combined with a high 600 day growth of +67, teamed with +for milk.

The bulk repeat buyer of the day was Bun Pawley from Rowena who purchased 6 bulls, at $2500 each, for his operation. These included a son of Toolangatta Impulse “Bandit”, a Moorlands Grand National son “Bismark”  two Truro Yogi Bear sons “Barramundi” and “Buckjump” and two commercial sons of Curracabark Roman.

It was great to see long time buyer of Truro bulls, Phillip Currey in from Pilliga to purchase another sire “Bandanna”. This bull is sired by Moorlands Grand National and is a very stylish calf, full of red meat with a great structure.

Warwick and Brenda Rees of Boggabri selected “Buckshot”, another Moorlnds Grand National son out of a great Yarram M629 daughter. Buckshot had very balanced numbers with an EMA of +3.2 and positives for fat cover.

The Mitchell family, from Rocky Creek, east of Narrabri, purchased their first Truro bull “Bull Ant”, a long-bodied, clean fronted Moorlands Grand National son, with a great butt on him.

Jim & Sue Cowell of Narrabri also secured a new sire for their operation, “Bullet”. This bull is by Toolangatta Impulse and is a heifer’s first calf with a low birth weight and an EBV of only +3.2.

We thank all the buyers and underbidders and look forward to 2009 where we will once again sell at the North West Bull sale but will also venture out to hold our first On-Property bull sale at “Truro” Bellata.
