Truro (North West Bull Sale)
24 July, 2007 at Narrabri NSW

21 bulls sold to $8,500
Average $3690
Sale gross $77,500

In a very pleasing result for Scott & Pip Hann and family, their sale achieved a good clearance and average despite tough seasonal conditions still prevailing and drastically reduced cow numbers with western breeders. Truro put the strongest line up of bulls bred so far up for the repeat and new buyers attending and purchasing at the sale.

The top priced bull for the day was $8500 for “Truro Ace of Hearts” to Ian Bjorksten from Wandong Hereford Stud at Yeoval. Ace of Hearts, 23 month old at sale time, is a son of Truro Union Jack out of a really good GH Simba ET21E female and was selected for his great length of body and scale. His great quality combined with excellent Breedplan performance data placing him at the top end of the breed, with +5.4 for birth, +63 for 600 Day, +2.1 for EMA, and +0.6 for IMF (top 5%).

The first two bulls offered were both sold to repeat buyers Jeff and Michelle King of Gunnedah paying $5500 twice. Lot 1 “Aladdin” is a heifer’s first calf by Truro Union Jack and combined low birthweight with terrific growth and carcase and an IMF of +0.5 (top 5%). Lot 2 “Avalanche”, a real performance bull by MHF X160 Reform 77H, offered great structure and muscle pattern and is out of one of our most consistent breeding cows.

It was fantastic to see long time Hereford breeders, Alwyn & Lyn Prentice of Delungra, purchasing 5 bulls in total, including sons of Toolangatta Impulse Y098, Yarram Pompeii V055, Truro Union Jack and Yarram Lottery X122. Three bulls sold to repeat buyer Bun Pawley from Rowena, for sons of Truro Union Jack, Curracabark Roman and Bundarra TX5. Other repeat buyers we were very pleased to see operating were Keith & Noel Stanford of Bellata, and Howard Mitchell of Moree both purchasing sons of Injemira National U570 and Phillip Currey of Pilliga purchasing a son of Toolangatta Impulse.

New buyers Ken Cudmore and Kickabell, both from Quirindi, were a welcome sight and purchased two bulls apiece. The Cudmore family purchased a growthy, stylish son of Injemira National U570 and a herd bull that attracted his fair share of attention being big, solid and upstanding. Kickerbell purchased a son of Charvel Yaamba out a heifer with Breedplan of +1.8 for birth and +12 for milk, and the last lot of Truro’s run, an outstanding herd bull making $4500, to complete a successful sale for 2007. The Bennett family from Bellata purchased two new sires, by Toolangatta Impulse Y098 and Curracabark Roman and one bull by Charvel Yaamba went to BJ & BM Byrnes at Wee Waa.

Scott & Pip and John & Peggy Hann were delighted with the sale and thank the National Bank, Narrabri for providing a free BBQ, with donations going to Ovarian Cancer research.

Truro is looking forward to their next crop of 50 bulls for sale in 2008, with attention being paid to all normal attributes but a strong emphasis being placed on lower birth weights and high growth rates, high IMF and high muscle content. The top bulls will be sold in the 7th North West Bull Sale on Tuesday 22nd July, 2008, with additional bulls for sale on property.
