Stud and commercial demand from three states for Truro genetics

The top price bull Truro Playboy P039 purchased by the Barwick family, Gravesend, NSW, for $7000.

Bulls and females sold to three states and topped at $7000 in the Truro Whiteface 12thon-property sale on July 20.

Hosted by the Hann family at Bellata, the sale drew repeat and new buyers who travelled from throughout NSW to attend.

The Helmsman sale was interfaced with AuctionsPlus resulting in strong bidding from buyers unable to attend in person.

Principals Scott and Pip Hann were thrilled to see their cattle sell to three states with six studs buying on the day.

Mr Hann said bulls topped at $7000 and averaged just over $5000, making it an affordable sale for buyers.

The top price bull was Truro Playboy P039 bought by the Barwick family at Gravesend, NSW.

“Playboy offers great skin and hair, terrific length and carcase and with enviable BREEDPLAN data,” Mr Hann said.

The Barwicks also purchased a female, Truro Ruth J114, the dam of their new bull.

The Woolaston family, of Somerton, were volume buyers returning once again purchasing two bulls, and a third one after the sale.

They had inspected the cattle prior to the sale and bought online. 

Bull buyers also included Jeff and Michelle King, Gunnedah, purchasing Truro Picasso, and the Arnott family from Tamworth, purchasing Truro Peakhour, with both bulls being sired by Centennial Anzac L055.

Stuart Russ made the trip from Blayney worth his while purchasing a low birthweight Truro Jonte son, Truro Pampas, and two females.

Repeat buyer Dick Bell, Gravesend also purchased two bulls for his herd.

Studs operating on the day were Ben and Katelin Davies, Wild Bear, Meadows in South Australia; Newcomen Stud, Ensay, Victoria; Daramour Stud, Warragul, Vic, Bingeberry Stud, Rouchel, NSW; Ashmar Stud, Gloucester and also Curracabark Stud, Gloucester.

The Higgins family from Curracabark purchased three females to add to their stud herd.

The females were keenly sought after and topped at $4000 three times and averaged $3250.

Local cattle producers Tony Bennett and family, Michael and Sandra Rowe, and Georgia Kirkby, all from Bellata, purchased females on the day.

Out in the yards with bulls – Russell Smyth, Ray White Rural Bingara, Scott and Pip Hann, Truro Herefords, Stuart Russ and Colin Bannerman from Blayney.

 The sale was conducted by Russell and Christene Smyth, Ray White Rural Bingara.

Mr Hann said the combination of AuctionsPlus and the Helsmann system had worked well on the day, especially for the volume buyers.

He said Truro was involved in a new program grass finishing cattle for the US restaurant market.

“We look forward to purchasing clients cattle for the program – we know Truro genetics work well on grass,” he said.

“We welcome visitors throughout the year and can assist cattle breeders with their programs.”

Truro Whiteface will hold the 13thon-property production sale on July 19, 2021.
