2020 Bull and Female Sale Post Sale Report

TRURO’S SALE SPREADS TO THREE STATES

Truro Whiteface at Bellata, held their 12th on-property sale last Monday. The Hann family offered Hereford and Poll Hereford bulls, and stud females. Scott and Pip were thrilled to see their cattle sell to three states with six studs purchasing on the day. The crowd was made up of repeat buyers and newcomers to Truro. Visitors travelled from throughout NSW, with strong bidding on AuctionsPlus for those interstate and unable to travel.

The bulls sold to a top of $7000 and averaged just over $5000, making it a very affordable sale for bull buyers. The top price bull was Truro Playboy P039 and was purchased by the Barwick family at Gravesend. Playboy offers great skin and hair, terrific length and carcase and with enviable Breedplan data. The Barwicks also purchased a female, Truro Ruth J114, the dam of their new bull.

The Woolaston family at Somerton were volume buyers returning once again and purchasing two bulls, and a third one after the sale. They had inspected the cattle prior to the sale and bought online.  Bull buyers also included Jeff and Michelle King, Gunnedah, purchasing Truro Picasso, and the Arnott family from Tamworth, purchasing Truro Peakhour, with both bulls being sired by Centennial Anzac L055. Stuart Russ made the trip from Blayney worth his while purchasing a low birthweight Truro Jonte son, Truro Pampas, and two females. Repeat buyer Dick Bell, Gravesend,  also purchased two bulls for his herd.

Studs operating on the day were Ben and Katelin Davies, Wild Bear Stud at Meadows in South Australia; Newcomen Stud, Ensay, Victoria; Daramour Stud, Warrigal in Victoria ; Bingeberry Stud from Rouchel in the Hunter Valley; Ashmar Stud at Gloucester and also Curracabark Stud from Gloucester. The Higgins family from Curracabark purchased three females to add to their stud herd.

The females were keenly sought after and topped at $4000 three times and averaged $3250.

Local cattle producers Tony Bennett and family, Michael and Sandra Rowe, and Georgia Kirkby, all from Bellata, purchased females on the day.

The sale was conducted by Russell and Christene Smyth, Ray White Rural Bingara. After the sale people discussed the use of a Helsman system interfaced with AuctionsPlus, as was done on the day, and thought it was a terrific idea, especially when they were buying more than one lot.

Scott, in thanking the people in attendance, mentioned a new programme Truro is involved in, grassfed fattening of cattle for the US restaurant market. Scott and Pip look forward to being able to purchase clients’ cattle for the programme. Scott said he believes this will work well as we know Truro genetics work well on grass. The family welcome visitors throughout the year and would love to assist cattle breeders with their programmes.
